Daniela Hernandez - Review

Speech class is one of the most underrated yet most influential classes that any college

or university has to offer. I took a look at four college presentations (including one I have

worked on), and saw several topics that I found to be very interesting yet important in

todays time. The presentations informed me about Intercultural Communication,

Communicating In Groups, Group Leadership and Problem Solving, and a very good

Review Presentation given by the group leaders.

Taking a look at the first group's presentation, I instantly liked the overall look and flow

of the presentation. Everyone spoke well, clear and used their time efficiently. This not

only allowed for all eleven people to present without being in a rush, but allowed for the

presenters to properly execute their presentation. Although one of the group members

did not really participate, the rest of the members overcame and were able to have a

good presentation. In my opinion, the first slide could have had a larger font size, the

small title left too much open space. On the other hand, the image really popped with a

nice welcome and pop of colors. Throughout the rest of the PowerPoint, there was a lot

of cohesiveness within the slides. All the information that was presented was accurate

and neat. The photos used in each slide correlated with the information posted and the

colors gave each slide charm. The information itself was presented neatly and

contained proper spelling and grammar.

The presentation of the second group had a nice cohesiveness within the slides as well.

The first slide had a nice cool color and the title was perfectly centered. I absolutely

loved the four hands with the papers, pencils, tablet, and smartphone. Each of those

individual items were capable of being used to communicate while in a group, hence the

title. I liked how each bit of information was lined with either a bullet point or a number.

These tools help make all of the information look neat and organized, which is just the

way that informational presentations should be, in all honesty. The images that were

inserted correlated with the information accurately and were not all over the place. The

overall theme amongst the slides was nice and modern. On the other hand, I didn't like

how the same four hands with the forms of communication were used frequently in

different slides. I believe that they were a bit overused. I couldn't help but notice due to

the images being on the first slide. The purplish-blue color that is in every slide is a nice

base color in my opinion. The color was not too bold or boring, and allowed the added

images to pop. Overall, their information was precise and very well read for the most

part. I do believe that some members read exactly what was on the slide word for word,

which I think is a bit too bland since it is a presentation. There could have been extra

information or different details given to make the dialogue sound more unique.

The third group had a nice presentation, but I thought it was very unorganized. The title

of the first slide was way too small and the photo on that slide looked unusually small as

well, thus causing it to look out of place. The rest of the slides had the same problem.

The titles were too small and in random places, which can really throw off whoever is

reading it. There were about three to five pictures on majority of the slides that were

created, making them to look very sloppy. The slides with only a couple photos looked a

lot more neat and clean. Nonetheless, the information that was provided was good and

very educational for the audience, which was great considering that was the purpose of

the presentation itself. The groups presentation was time efficient and very informative,

which makes this PowerPoint great overall. Although the design and structuring of the

presentation was not the best, the presenters made the PowerPoint very enjoyable and

informative. The amount of information put out as well as their style of presenting made

up for the lack of design.

The fourth presentation was created by the class leaders. The individuals who

presented this presentation gave their thoughts and opinions about the three group

projects that I spoke of earlier. They raved about what they thought everyone could do

better, all while giving the class advice to better themselves for the future. Their

presentation was one of the most organized in the class. You could tell that they studied

and practiced their presentation instead of reading everything off of the slides, word for

word. They gave a perfect example of how a presentation should be presented and

formatted. Their use of bullet points, colors, and general visual themes were very

aesthetically pleasing. I personally enjoyed the presentation myself. The presenters

kept me engaged with all of the information given.

Overall, I believe the work shown by the first three groups were all well made,

considering the amount of teamwork and effective time used during their productions.

They also had very well made presentations, especially for it being their first project for

speech. In my opinion, the third group had a lot more work in comparison to the first two

due to them having a significant lack of collaborators. They only had two students

working on such a tedious project, yet they still pulled through and made it happen. In

regards of my experience working in the first group, I would say that it was enjoyable

and very different to many projects I have done in the past. I learned that

communicating is very hard when it comes to shared work because there were

instances where no one would communicate to each other. I was often left hanging

when I asked questions and had to somewhat figure out how to do it myself. It was

difficult working with no one helping with the back and forth bouncing of ideas. Yet

again, this is the first project. More practice and work will make us better collaborators

for the bright future we have.
